Dear friends and lovers of Pašman,
We invite you to join us for the special event Fortress Night 2025, which will be held from May 7th to 10th at multiple locations on our island.
This year's Night of Fortresses brings a multi-day program full of education, art, volunteering, and shared reflection on the space that surrounds us. The program takes place at magical locations: Pustograd Fortress, the Tkon Interpretation Center, and the Tkon Cultural Center.
Pustograd – guardian of the island through the centuries
Situated on a hill above Zaklopica Bay, Pustograd Fortress has a rich history that dates back to the Byzantine Empire.
Built as a military fortress to oversee the Pašman and Zadar canals, it served as a refuge – a safe haven for the local population in difficult times.
Over the centuries, Pustograd has witnessed naval battles, pirate attacks, and struggles to preserve its territory. Today, its remains tell silent stories of courage, unity, and survival.
The Night of Fortresses brings these stories back to life.
What awaits us?
• May 7th and 8th – creative workshops for students through the project “Between Heritage and Film”, where children explore Pustograd using film, photography and sound.
• May 9th – “History Hour in the Field” with expert guidance, installation of educational panels and evening panel discussion “Voices of the Community” at the Tkon Cultural Center.
• May 10th – volunteer action “Šipnata”, joint landscaping around the fortress, and the ceremonial closing of the event with the exhibition “Wall Newspapers”.
The program includes all generations – children, young people, adults, guests and experts.
The goal is not just to visit the site, but to understand it, protect it, and build its future together.
